It Really Is Simple
When you boil it all down, here is what Jesus did: Jesus made redemption possible for all of humanity and He started a movement of messengers of redemption to make sure the message made it to everyone.
If Jesus had not died on the cross and rose from the dead, a disciple making movement is irrelevant. Who cares if you make disciples of a dead man? If Jesus did not make our redemption possible, we have absolutely no reason to make a single disciple.
On the other hand, if Jesus made redemption possible, then we need as many people helping pass on the message of redemption as possible. In fact, we need a movement of messengers. If the original disciples had not passed on the message of redemption, not one single person on earth today would know about redemption.
Jesus succeeded in two things: making redemption possible, and starting a movement of redemption messengers. We should be forever grateful for what Jesus has done for us on the cross, and we should forever be committed to helping others have what we have.
It is not complicated. If you have experienced redemption, help someone else discover it, and teach them how to pass it on to others. If enough Christians realize how simple disciple making really is, maybe we could put a dent in the darkness.
Yes, we do need to teach and train people how to live like Jesus, but that’s not complicated either. A simple investment of helping someone learn to live like Jesus by teaching them God’s word and equipping them for ministry is primarily an act of obedience. More people could be multiplying disciples if they were simply willing to do it. A lack of obedience to the very thing Jesus called us to do is the number one attack of the enemy against disciple making.
The problem is not that disciple making is complicated: the problem is that most people simply are not willing to do it. Disciple Making can be hard, and that is why most people give up on it. Why not beat the odds and be one of the few that truly multiplies disciples? Stay the course and be obedient to the very thing Jesus did. Help someone receive the message of Jesus and teach them how to pass it along.
