Dear Discipleship-First Tribe,

Jesus has given us the most important mission in the world – to be and make disciples. That is why we at Discipleship.org champion Jesus-style disciple making. We won’t stop functioning as an organization until disciple making movements are the norm in homes, communities, and churches in North America.

Why? Because the difference we’re seeing in people’s lives.

For example, we received the following email after our recent National Disciple Making Forum, where over 1,700 church leaders joined us and our 30 partnering ministries:

I traveled from Puyallup, Washington, to attend the Forum. The variety of discipleship ministries represented was really impressive. It was impossible to get to all the great presentations. Thank you so much for your vision for life-changing discipleship in our churches. I am challenged to make disciples who are making disciples.

Wow, that last line says it all: “I am challenged to make disciples who are making disciples.”

Here are four key summary statistics of what’s happening today. We’re seeing:

A 12% decline of those claiming to be Christians in the last 10 years.
A 7% decline in church attendance in the last 10 years.
Only 49% of Millennials now identify as Christians.
As many as 64% of Christian youth are dropping out of church in their 20s.

The best possible response by the church is to continue championing Jesus-style disciple making. Only a full commitment to do what Jesus did and the way Jesus did it will suffice.
