Francis, tell us which one of the six discipleship elements you’ll be leading and why you picked that area.

I will be teaching on the Bible because I love it so much. Nothing can replace my time alone in Scripture. This is how God speaks to me and leads me. True discipleship involves teaching people to study the Word and to obey it. In general, we’ve become pretty weak at both. Hopefully we can reverse that trend!

What are you most excited about when you think about being one of six leaders in this unprecedented gathering?

I’m excited to be in a group with older men who have modeled discipleship over many years. The older I get, the fewer examples there are of godly and faithful older men. This will probably be my only chance to partner with guys like Robert and K.P., so I wanted to take advantage of it.

What do you hope attendees take away from the National Discipleship Forum?

That people actually rearrange their schedules to make more time for discipleship. We have become way too infatuated with reaching masses while neglecting true mentoring relationships. It’s not that I don’t want to reach the masses, but it’s my hope that people will genuinely see that the best method of reaching the masses is biblical discipleship.
