Description

In this eBook we want to introduce a new generation of pastors, church planters and Christian leaders to Dr. Coleman’s proposals for how to make disciples the way Jesus did.

We call him “Dr. Coleman” because we hold him in high regard as the quintessential graceful, godly man and master Bible teacher. For over 55 years, he has taught young pastors in the best seminaries in the world—Gordon Conwell, Asbury, Trinity Evangelical Divinity School and the Southern Baptist Seminary (among others).

The basis of Dr. Coleman’s esteemed book is a belief that Jesus’ method of discipleship is the perfect one. He contends that we need both Jesus’ message and Jesus’ method. The timeless and transcultural principles of His method simply cannot be improved upon. His master plan was the perfect plan because in Jesus we find all treasures of wisdom and knowledge.

Robert E. Coleman is distinguished professor of evangelism and discipleship at Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary. For many years he served as dean of the Billy Graham International Schools of Evangelism as well as director of the Billy Graham Center Institute of Evangelism at Wheaton College. He was also professor of evangelism at Trinity Evangelical Divinity School, where he directed the School of World Mission and Evangelism.

Dr. Coleman is a graduate of Southwestern University, Asbury Theological Seminary, and Princeton Theological Seminary, and has a PhD from the University of Iowa. He has received honorary doctorates from Trinity International University and Asbury Theological Seminary.

He is a founding member of the Lausanne Committee of World Evangelization and a past president of the Academy for Evangelism in Theological Education. He presently serves on the Facilitation Committee of Mission America and several international mission boards.

Twenty-four books and hundreds of articles have come from Dr. Coleman’s pen. His books have been published in many languages around the world. A seasoned teacher, pastor, and evangelist, he hopes to be remembered simply as a disciple of Christ.

Bobby Harrington is the executive director of Discipleship.org. He is the founding and lead pastor of Harpeth Christian Church (by the Harpeth River, just outside of Nashville, TN). He is an experienced church planter, coach of church leaders (through many years of ministry with Stadia and Church Coaching Solutions), and he is the author of several books on discipleship, including DiscipleShift that he co-wrote with Jim Putman and Robert E. Coleman, Dedicated: Training Your Children to Trust and Follow Jesus and Discipleship That Fits: The Five Kinds of Relationships God Uses to Help Us Grow, co-written with Alex Absalom.

Bobby has studied at such places as the University of Calgary, Harding School of Theology, Regent College (in Canada), Asbury Seminary, and Princeton University. He has a Doctor of Ministry degree from the Southern Baptist Theological Seminary in Consulting (under Thom Rainer). He and his lovely wife Cindy have two grown children who trust and follow Jesus.
